African Mango – New Weight Loss Aid

African Mango is the newest addition to the weight loss scene. It was first brought to the public’s attention by Dr. Oz in September 2010. The African mango is native to the rainforests in western Cameroon. Its seeds and nuts are the most prized due to their health benefits. They are said to heal everything from diarrhea to yellow fever and hunters have been eating them to increase energy and fight fatigue.

The African mango supplements intensify the feeling of satiety and can prevent the food we eat from being converted into fat. It can lower body fat and bad cholesterol leves. The seed also called Dika nut can boost metabolism with no harmful side effects. The extract can reduce the size of fat cells, encouraging use of fat for energy. An ingredient present in the African mango can make Leptin more effective. Leptin is the hormone that influences our sensation of satiety. It also aids in managing glucose levels, delaying stomach emptying and leading to better absorption of sugars. African mango can also help with detoxifying and cleansing the body.

Thyroid patients that are overweight can benefit from an African mango diet. As such patients are prone to insulin resistance, the African mango extract can increase the production of adiponectin, a hormone that is able to regulate insulin. In addition, by inhibiting the enzyme amylase, the carbohydrate digestion is slowed down.

Ethnomedicinal treatments have used the bark, kernels, leaves and roots of the African mango for a wide range of ailments. For example, the Mende tribe in Sierra Leone has been grinding the bark and prepared a paste which is applied to the skin for pain relief. The kernels can act as an astringent and have been applied to burns. Stems have been used as chewing sticks that can help clean the teeth.
