The Better Way To Weight Loss

Published:January 5th, 2011

For many people, a new year starts off with a new weight loss regime, however as the year progresses, reaching the new resolution becomes more and more difficult.

Cleansing diets have recently gained the support of celebrities and diet gurus worldwide. According to most experts trying to lose weight without first trying to get rid of toxins and bacteria that help fat cells fatter is pointless. However, besides the toxins in our bodies, there are psychological toxins that we need to get rid of if we try to lose fat effectively.

Almost every time we overeat, there is an underlying cause that is responsible for such bouts. Such causes may be embedded deeply in our subconscious, and for some people even having someone else telling them what to eat and what not to eat can be the trigger for such behavior.

Diets that can mess our brain chemistry by decreasing the level of serotonin can be harmful. Serotonin helps us stay calm and cope with difficult situations. Avoiding carbohydrates does not help our brain to manufacture serotonin, so coping becomes more difficult.

However, rich foods tend to work like a drug on our brains, making it so difficult for us to stop eating them. While our brain is hard-wired to favour rich foods, the cells in our bodies are programmed to absorb extra fuel and store it as fat. The same hormones and neurotransmitters are active in both depression and obesity, so the tendency to eat when we are not hungry is so difficult to overcome.

Cheap, abundant and tasty food has become readily available in the last 50 years. The fact that we need so little physical effort to obtain it has upset the delicate balance within our bodies.
