Weight Loss By Freezing Fat Cells

Published:November 14th, 2010

In addition to liposuction, a new method of getting rid of body fat has been approved recently by FDA. Zeltiq is the new technique to kill fat cells with cool sculpting technology. The research has expanded for a period of two years and the FDA trial in Boston and a few other cities indicated that the benefits can last for a lifetime.

A special cold patch is placed on the treatment area. The Zeltiq head is then put over the patch and then turned on to create suction for about an hour. It is a nonsurgical approach that has its appeal for a lot of people. It cannot accomplish the same results as surgery, but the technique can be used all over the body.

The technique works for fat that is right under the skin, it cannot affect deep fat, or visceral adipose tissue which is around the organs in the belly. Visceral adipose tissue has been linked with heart disease and diabetes.

Just like with liposuction, the fat cells are destroyed, the fat spills out of the cells and is metabolized. However, in the case of liposuction doctors can remove as much fat as they need at a given time. This new technique only removes 20% of a typical fat layer, but it can be repeated for more visible results.

Although doctors still think that nothing can replace a good diet, exercise and a healthy lifestyle they are confident that the new technique can bring about some improvement.
